Escrow vs Wiring Money Directly: Which Actually Protects You?

Wiring Money Directly

Sending the full amount straight to a seller feels simple, but the transfer is irreversible the moment it lands. If the car never arrives, or shows up with problems, your money is already gone.

Escrow

With escrow, funds are held by a neutral agent and only released to the seller after the vehicle is delivered and you've had your 10-day inspection period. The money moves on your terms, not the seller's.

The Fee Question

A direct wire has no fee. Escrow charges a small percentage. The trade-off is simple: the fee buys you leverage if the car doesn't match the listing.

Which to Choose

For a purchase you can fully verify yourself, a direct transfer may be fine. For anything expensive bought remotely and delivered to you, escrow is the safer call.

The 10-day inspection window point is huge. With a direct wire you lose all leverage the second it's sent.
